UPI Pending Payment — What To Do

A "Pending" UPI transaction means the payment is in process — neither complete nor failed. Here is what it means and the correct steps to take.

⚠️ Do NOT retry a pending UPI payment immediately

Retrying a pending transaction may result in double debit. Wait for the original transaction to resolve before making a second payment.

Why Is My UPI Payment Pending?

Beneficiary bank processing delay

The receiving bank's system is processing the credit. UPI is real-time but beneficiary bank reconciliation may take minutes.

Bank server temporarily unavailable

Either the sending or receiving bank's server is temporarily unavailable. Pending transactions auto-resolve when servers recover.

Network timeout

Your internet connection was interrupted during the transaction. The transaction was initiated but a confirmation was not received.

NPCI infrastructure processing

High transaction volume on the NPCI network (common during salary days, festival seasons) can cause brief delays.

What To Do

1

Wait 30–60 minutes before taking any action.

2

Check your bank account balance to see if money was debited.

3

If debited and transaction still shows pending after 24 hours, contact your bank customer care.

4

Do NOT raise multiple disputes for the same transaction — it slows resolution.

5

If unresolved after your bank's timeline, escalate to NPCI ODR portal: upi.npci.org.in
