NACH / e-Mandate Guide India 2026
NACH (National Automated Clearing House) is an NPCI-run platform for bulk and recurring payment mandates — EMI deductions, insurance premiums, utility bills, SIP, loan repayments. e-Mandate is the digital (paperless) variant.
What is NACH?
NACH is a centralised clearing platform run by NPCI that enables bulk debit/credit mandates. Banks, NBFCs, and institutions use NACH for recurring payments like EMI, SIP, insurance premium collection.
What is e-Mandate?
e-Mandate is a paperless digital mandate registration on NACH. Customers register mandates digitally via net banking / debit card OTP — no physical form needed.
NACH Debit vs NACH Credit
NACH Debit: Bulk debit from customer accounts (EMI collection, insurance). NACH Credit: Bulk credit to accounts (salary disbursement, pension, subsidy credits like PMJDY, PM-Kisan).
Mandate Cancellation
NACH mandates can be cancelled by the customer through their bank branch or internet banking. Cancellation takes 30 days to process through the NACH clearing cycle. UPI AutoPay is faster to cancel (immediate).
NACH Timings
NACH processes mandates in settlement cycles — typically daily batches. Unlike IMPS/UPI, NACH is not real-time. Settlement happens on banking days.
Return Reasons
NACH returns happen when: insufficient balance, account closed/frozen, mandate cancelled, invalid account details. Return charges apply — check your bank's Schedule of Charges.
