FASTag — National Electronic Toll Collection
FASTag is a RFID-based electronic toll collection system under NPCI's NETC platform. Mandatory for all four-wheelers in India. Issued by authorised banks.
FASTag is Mandatory. As per NHAI/Ministry of Road Transport guidelines, FASTag is mandatory for all four-wheelers. Vehicles without FASTag are charged double toll at FASTag-only lanes.
How FASTag Works
FASTag uses RFID technology. The tag affixed to your windshield is scanned at toll plazas. The toll amount is automatically debited from your prepaid FASTag wallet (linked to your bank account or wallet).
Who Issues FASTag?
FASTag is issued by NPCI-authorised banks. Major issuers: SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Paytm Payments Bank, Kotak, and others. Each issuer has its own app and recharge mechanism.
FASTag Recharge
Recharge via: Issuer bank app/website, UPI, Net banking, NEFT. Minimum recharge amount varies by bank (typically ₹100–₹500). Security deposit (₹200–₹500) is collected at issuance — refunded when tag is surrendered.
FASTag KYC
Full KYC required for FASTag: vehicle registration certificate (RC), photo ID, address proof. Limited KYC FASTags have lower wallet limits. KYC can be completed online via issuer bank portal or app.
FASTag Blacklisting
FASTag can be blacklisted if: insufficient balance, KYC incomplete after deadline, reported stolen/lost, vehicle sold without transfer. Blacklisted FASTags are charged double toll and need to be reactivated with the issuer bank.
FASTag Refund on Surrender
Security deposit is refunded when you surrender/cancel your FASTag. Contact your issuer bank for the surrender process. Refund timelines vary by bank.
