FD FAQs

Are senior citizen FD rates higher?

Yes. Most Indian banks offer an additional 0.25% to 0.50% per annum over the general rate for senior citizens (age 60+). Some banks offer super-senior-citizen rates (age 80+) that are even higher.

How is FD interest taxed?

FD interest is fully taxable as per your income tax slab. Banks deduct TDS at 10% if interest exceeds ₹40,000/year (₹50,000 for seniors). Submit Form 15G/15H if you're below the tax threshold to avoid TDS.

How often do FD rates change?

Banks revise FD rates based on RBI repo rate decisions and internal liquidity requirements. Major revisions typically happen within days of RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meetings. We re-verify rates within 14 days.

Are callable and non-callable FD rates different?

Yes. Non-callable FDs (cannot be withdrawn before maturity) typically offer slightly higher rates (+0.10%–0.25%) to compensate for the illiquidity.
